Every year, the Madrid Ministry of Education has external evaluations carried by “prestigious institutions” out of both bilingual public primary and public secondary school students.
The most important of these evaluations takes place in Year 6 of bilingual primary education. Students’ four language skills in English are assessed on the Cambridge PET or KET exam. Students in a bilingual public primary school who wish to continue their studies in the Sección Bilingüe of public secondary schools must achieve the required level in this evaluation. These “prestigious” external evaluations are paid for by the Community of Madrid.
See the statistics section for number of students that have taken part in and passed these external examinations in recent years.
