French Language Sections

There are currently 15 French Language Sections, 12 of which began in the 2006-2007 academic year, and the remaining 3 which began the following academic year, in 2007-2008.

In these Language Sections, five periods of French language are taught weekly. In addition, and depending on the availability of certified teachers, at least two other subjects – preferably History and Geography, Natural Science or Social Science – are taught in French. The contents of these subjects must comply with the Official Curriculum of the Community of Madrid. Mathematics and Spanish Language and Literature cannot be taught in French and those subjects taught in French must be offered throughout the whole cycle of compulsory secondary education (ESO).

Teachers from these Language Sections receive yearly in-service professional development courses. Each Language Section is supplied with two French Language Assistants who complement the work of the school´s teachers and enrich the programme with their cultural and linguistic input, in the same way Language Assistants in the Spanish-English bilingual programme do.

See the statistics section for number of schools and students in this programme.

German Language Sections

There are 4 secondary schools with German Language Sections. Two of them began their programme in the 2006-2007 academic year, the third in 2007-2008, and the fourth one during the current academic year, 2013-2014. Each school is provided with two German-speaking Language Assistants.

All German Language Sections participate in the PASCH Programme (schools: Partners for the Future), whose objective is to create active and lasting links with Germany and to promote linguistic and cultural exchange among schools, teachers and students. This programme also includes a wide range of activities, such as teacher training and scholarships for students to spend time in Germany.

In these Language Sections, periods of German language are taught per week depending on the availability of certified teachers, one or two subjects – preferably History and Geography, Natural Science or Social Science – are taught in German, in compliance with the Official Curriculum of the Community of Madrid. The subjects taught in German must be offered throughout the whole cycle of compulsory secondary education (ESO). Mathematics and Spanish Language and Literature cannot be taught in German.
